One
of television history’s most ambitious projects is coming to a close. Shooting
began in Morocco on Monday (September 24) for 'The Bible’s' final installment,
'The Apocalypse' (90’), inspired by the Book of Revelation. Raffaele Mertes (The
Bible – Esther) will direct the international cast featuring Richard Harris (‘Gladiator’,
‘The Count of Monte Cristo’), Benjamin Sadler (‘The Sands of Time’, ‘Mary Magdalene’),
Christian Kohlund (‘Sun on the Stubble’) and Vittoria Belvedere (‘The Return of
Sandokan’). Set in 90 A.D., the € seven million KirchMedia and Partners’ production,
unfolds against the turbulent backdrop of Emperor Dominitianus’s virulent persecution
of the Christians in Asia Minor. Held
captive by the Romans on the island of Patmos, the aged apostle John struggles
to save Christianity from extinction. During his captivity, John has apocalyptical
visions about the horror of the earthly existence but also about the grandness
of Heaven and the redemption through faith. The young Christian Irene gains access
to the prison camp with the help of her brother Jonicus. John trusts her, and
confides in her under the seal of secrecy. He gives her the transcripts of his
visions, which she passes on to the frightened Christian communities. After several
dangerous escape attempts, John and his followers are condemned to death. But
they are saved at the last minute by the sudden death of the Emperor Domitian.
The new Emperor gives the Christians amnesty and their horrible persecution is
finally over. The world-renowned
Irish star Richard Harris will portray the Apostle John. The popular German actor,
Benjamin Sadler, will play Valerius, the young Roman soldier sent to Patmos to
work as an informer for the Romans who will then fall in love with the young Christian
Irene. Christian Kohlund will depict the ruthless Roman general, Valerius’ stepfather
Quintus. Harris and Kohlund both played in ‘Abraham’, the second episode of the
Bible cycle. Rafaelle Mertes, the Italian director and co-writer of the script,
directed ‘The Bible – Esther’ in 1998 and was cameraman in eight further episodes
of the Bible cycle. With 21 TV
movies produced over nine years, sold to more than 67 countries worldwide, produced
with a total budget of more than € 100 million, shot in specially built sets in
the Moroccan desert, filmed by fantastic directors, nominated seven times and
once awarded with the TV-Oscar, this is truly a project of superlatives. World-renowned
stars such as Ben Kingsley, Elizabeth Hurley, Dennis Hopper, Klaus Maria Brandauer,
Jeremy Sisto, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Jacqueline Bisset, Gary Oldman and Franco Nero
contributed to the exceptional success of this major endeavor. The episodes of
the Bible have to date reached top ratings worldwide with more than 40% market
share in Spain, Italy, Austria and Germany. The
Apocalypse is produced by LUX VIDE, KirchMedia and Quinta in co-operation with
RAI, FRANCE 2, Antena 3, TM, Czech TV, NCRV, BskyB and ARD / Degeto.

This
text is translated from Italian through google's service so please excuse the
grammar ' Apocalisse' is Greek
word that means ' detection properly '. It is also the title it of the last book
of the Bible, sometimes that it contains the impenetrable profezie (detections,
exactly) on the consumazione of the world and according to advent of Christ. Being
to the Christian tradition, the book is from attributing itself to evangelista
Giovanni, than it would have written it in the island of Patmos, around to years
94-95 d.C., the time of the persecutions of Domiziano emperor. Properly, the text
is introduced like a letter to the seven churches of the Asia Minor (Efeso, Smirne,
Pulpit, Tiatira, Sardinians, Filadelfia, Laodicea) and represents a drama: that
one of the new world that are left over and the old world that resist to it, and
that in end it is opened to a outcry of liberation of the redenti that, after
the fight, enjoys the Victoria eternal of God, the Lamb that defeats the Beast.
The text is profetico and visionario,
therefore dark. The visions of Giovanni materialize in animals orrendi and terrifying
profezie. From here, also, the semantic transit of the word, than often is capacity
today to mean the equivalent of one catastrophe. As it was possible, from this
text, to gain dramatized or a television film is the case to say that God only
knows it. In this case, the team
that has manipulated the text ( Gianmario Pagano that has written the film, Francisco
Contaldo , Raffaele Mertes and the same one Pays that they have dramatized it)
has put in scene the verosimile historical situation, insomma the ' frame ': the
Roman and the Christians, that is persecutory and the pursued one to you. With
some means figures ' ': a soldier who discovers of having the true Christian parents
and that the Rate enters in crisis (had made better, frankly, with Clorinda),
one beautiful child who not out of order never (Irene: Victoria Lookout ), the
churches that receive letters of Giovanni, believed died and instead, in spite
of everything, alive seppur captive in the mine of Patmos; with also an attempt
of escape ' western' of the Christians from the imprisonment. The visions are
like dreams, than Giovanni it endures comprehensibly with overwhelmed and dumbfound
expression, and to open mouth. Some time seems of being in the Dantesque afterlife.
Much smoke, fog, fire. It could be made better, also like special effects. But
at least, in the war visions, the twin svastiche, bombs and Towers could save
them. In these cases that that
distinguishes the good scripteriters from those television ones is the necessity,
than these last ones unavoidablly they feel, of ' bignamizzare ': insomma of giving,
quickly, information to the spectator, without which these would understand little.
Insomma of being didascalici, explaining all. Therefore here, as an example, perfidissimo
a Domiziano quickly servants, to the beginning, to put to the current on the persecutions;
a beautiful Irene girl "with the eyes of cerbiatta" (therefore once, quand' was
child, Giovanni said seeing it for case and tightening it himself to them: comment)
he does not help to understand the drama of the pursued to you and certainty of
the faith; the visions are explained from a kind personage in.bianco, in the case
that someone had of the doubts (is the risibile manipulation of the text: that
it is instead intentionally dark like is of obligation in the profezie, and from
draws its suggestion here); a child is used in order to make yes that the father,
premuroso, clear who are Giovanni and who is the apostles, in the case that some
minus habens did not know it; etc etc. Useless to say that the bad ones you are
catti to you seriously, and also a po' depravati; and that the beautiful bonds
are of usual also, he combs to you, and very he makes up to you. The
director, Raffaele Mertes (also Co-scripteriter) is the same one of depriving
of hope the Police officers , from we already served like deserved; the production
is of the group that ago head to Ettore Bernabei , and that already had produced
other episodes from the Bible. Useless to find the movie mistakes , than by now
they are of obligation also in the greater productions (someone has pointed out
as an example that the spinato thread, behind which the prisoners suffer, has
been patented in 1874). Risibili some steps of the scenario ("Giovanni has had
an other vision ", the child asks the friend, with the same expression with which
she would ask if she has still badly of head). The cast he is international, but
not for this less provincial one. He obviously detaches Richard Harris , of which
this it is one of the last interpretations. It dulls also, with the same beard
curatissima with which it appears to Sunday In (neanche has not been made up,
insomma), Paul Village , that it interprets a Christian head of a community of
pursued to you, and that to dispetto of the text and the drammaticità that would
be wanted to be given to the entirety it is identical, comprised voice, to the
television Fantozzi (and to say it all never has not looked at perseguitato therefore
very pasciuto). An apocalypse: this time in the running sense, and not in that
etimologico. Interpreters Richard
Harris (Giovanni), Victoria Lookout (Irene), Benjamin Sadler (Valerio), Paul Village
(Gaio), Chirstian Kohlund (Fifth), Bruce Payne (Domiziano), Ian Duncan (Demetrio),
Constantine Gregory (Crow), Erol Sander (Ionic), Luca Ward (Eracle), Massimiliano
Pazzaglia (Silvano), Matt Patresi (Titone), Walter Knot (Hermes), Alexander Bertolucci

Saint
Giovanni LApocalisse C.C. Tuesday 10 Decembers will go in wave on Raiuno lultimo
understood it of the television Bible, San Giovanni LApocalisse . Tuesday
10 Decembers to the 20:55 will go in wave on Raiuno lultimo understood it of
the television Bible, San Giovanni LApocalisse . The great plan to travel
over again the history of the sacred witnesses has carried to the realization
of some between beautifulst films tv of the last years. And also this conclusive
film, product like always from Luca Bernabei, for the direction of Raffaele Mertes,
promises to give moments of intense emotion. The narrated vicissitudes leave in
the 90 d.C., when Smaller the Christian communities dellAsia are in serious danger.
To that time the Roman dominates great part of world the known and lImperatore
Domiziano, interpreted from Bruce Payne, proclama only true God. Fixed Domiziano,
therefore a ultimatum to the Christians. Within a sure date, the Christians will
have to abjure their faith or to pay with the dead women. To this point, the Smaller
communities dellAsia are in preda to the panic and solo one strongly spiritual
guide could help them in their difficult way of faith. When the voice is diffused
that Giovanni, lApostolo predelight, more the beloved to Jesus, would be still
while still alive, a hope breath wraps the faithfuls. While the Christian community,
guided from the old Gaio, interpreted from our Paul Village, lives hours of great
uncertainty, lamore is born between Irene, one young Christian, and Valerio,
a roman soldier. The history between Irene, interpreted from splendid the Victoria
Lookout, and Valerio (Benjamin Sadler) remembers us that one of the beautiful
Lycia and its seen roman love in Quo Vadis?. But cè null more poetico not to
dellintrecciarsi than a feeling contrasted to the narrated historical vicissitudes.
It is Irene that Valerio will leave for Patmos, Greek unisola, to the search
dellApostolo that it lives under false empty. Both try it, but for much various
reasons. Valerio is, in truth, a dellImperatore emissary with lordine to capture
lApostolo. Irene, instead, will be through between the Christian community and
Giovanni, than alive to Patmos under false identity. Giovanni (Richard Harris),
in fact, lives to Patmos with to the trusted disciple Demetrio (Ian Duncan) and
it is made to call Teofilo. E to Patmos that incrocieranno the drammati to us
destinies of the protagonists. Here God will reveal to Giovanni the future events
through the seven vision seals. And here Irene will discover that Valerio is a
dellImperatore spy. But the end, cè not to fear, is lieto, like more confà to
the NATO them that it is approached. The faith will prevail on the evil, while
lamore it will exceed every obstacle. http://www.televisione.it/articoli/2002/12/10/355118.php
Saint Giovanni - The Apocalypse The last
episode It was 12 December of 1993 when the first one went in wave understood
it of the television version of the Bible. Nine years after, 10 December 2002,
here l?ultima page of the Great Book. 10 December, in fact, in first evening on
RaiUno goes in wave the final understood one it of the cycle dedicated to the
Bible and realized from Lux Vide. Saint Giovanni - the Apocalypse is interpreted
greatest actor recently scomparso Richard Harris in the role of the evangelista
Giovanni, to taken with one the impressive series visions on the end of the world.
The greatest television production never realized is concluded therefore: 21 films
sold in 130 countries, 125 million euro budgets, 40 star international, 3265 been
involved persons, 80,000 appearances, 1,470,000 meters of film use and 300 you
million spectators. Irish L?attore,
died to 72 years the slid October, had declared to concluded resumptions: From
much time I was not touched a lot . Easy to understand: l?Apocalisse, a letter,
written to the Christian communities dell?Asia, is one of the more evocative and
fascinating witnesses that never they have been written, with its great images:
the Four Knights, l?Anticristo, the Seven Seal. A complex, important story, that
it has provoked ignited arguments and multiple interpretations. In
the first scenes of the film tv we are in the 90 d.C. to the time of the feracious
persecutions dell?imperatore Domiziano ( Bruce Payne ). And the period in which
Giovanni it has the brought back visions nell?Apocalisse. While between Smaller
the Christian communities dell?Asia c?è forehead disorientation dell?imperatore
all?ultimatum that imposes l?abiura of the faith, pain the martyrdom. But here
that the beautiful Irene ( Victoria Lookout ) door to its people a letter of Giovanni,
that it demonstrates like l?ultimo of the apostles, believed maxim, is in truth
still while still alive. It currently
says Victoria Lookout engaged on the set of Nobody to its place , film tv for
the direction of Gianfranco Albano, of which she is protagonist: Irene, the personage
that I interpret, is one simple woman and with one great force. Inborn the Christians
of its community to buy back the faith saying they that Giovanni is alive. And
a personage who is invented for novellistic requirements, because he has been
believed that a thread was necessary conductor that helped the viewer to untie
itself in the complexity of the text dell?Apocalisse. A text that same I knew
alone in part and that this job has helped to understand me better. I must say
that the moving thing more has been to recite beside a great actor like Richard
Harris. I confess that all?inizio I was scared, from a part because to work with
an interpreter therefore he is not what every day, dall?altra because I was l?unica
woman in the cast and this has made to feel one strongly me responsibility regarding
the good resolution of the film tv. Nearly all the scenes in which I have recited
were beside Richard. Its presence was magnetic, has had the power makes me to
estraniare from the external world, giving the feeling to me of living truly in
the moment of the scene that we were turning . Also
Saint Giovanni - the Apocalypse has been turned to Ouarzazate, in Morocco, like
all the others understood them of the television Bible. http://guide.supereva.it/fiction_televisiva/interventi/2002/12/127067.shtml
The
fall of the “Twin Towers” on Sepetmber 11 features in a few frames of San Giovanni
l’Apocalisse. But this isn’t the main theme of the new 2 hour drama made for Lux
Vide by Ettore and Luca Bernabei, which will be broadcast on RAI Uno on December
10 at 20:55. There are images of war, devastation, death, fires, persecutions.
And the curse of hunger which consumes whole populations. But
the last of the scared books, predicted by the Apostles isn’t this either. The
TV movie filmed by Raffaele Mertes, stars Richard Harris, now dead – who already
played the part of Abraham in the 1st chapter of the Bible. It has dark undertones
and doesn’t hold with a true story, from the moment that the visions become symbolic,
and turn into a Christian version of the Apocalypse, in the sense of “revelation”
not “catastrophe”, giving it a messaghe of hope and salvation. Good wins over
Evil. The cast is international:
Vittoria Belvedere, Paolo Villaggio, Benjamin Sadler, Christian Kohlund, Walter
Nudo and Luca Ward."When they suggested that I shoot this film I went off straight
away and read the Apocalyse, however I dind’t understand much. Then, slowly slowly,
together with the screenwriter and the collaboration of Father Marco Frisina and
Gianmario Pagano we tried to create a product which can let more people understand
about this book which is so little known”, explains Mertes. “When one talks of
the Apocalypse. People immediately think of something negative, but it’s not like
that. The message that John wanted to give us is positive: he wanted to say the
God will save us from destruction. It was that idea which struck me the most”.
This is the 13th and last film in the “Bible cycle”, started 10 years ago by Ettore
Bernabei, continued by his young son Luca. This drama features many special effects,
made in Italy. It took a year and a half to work on the special effects; four
years in total for the film, which cost 15 billion old Lire, 5 put forward by
RAI. Bernabei stresses the importance and the value of the international collaboration,
especially the “consultation” on the content with experts from the various religions.
The director general of RAI, Agostino Saccà denies that drama has to move “from
the local craftsman stage to industrial manufacture. To go against this, there’s
funding, the support of the producers and more funding from the government”. For
Saccà “the increase of the licence fee can be no longer put off. For every thousand
lire more gathered, 200 will go to drama". |
